ABUS is an esteemed brand renowned for its innovative and reliable locking systems. Let’s delve into their rich history, explore their acclaimed Abus disk lock, and highlight their range.

The History of ABUS

Established in 1924 by August Bremicker and his sons in Volmarstein, Germany, ABUS began as a modest operation producing padlocks in their cellar forge. Their first product, the "Iron Rock," laid the foundation for a company that would become synonymous with security and quality. Over the decades, ABUS has achieved several milestones:

  • 1931: Introduction of the first bicycle lock, "No. 1000," catering to the growing number of cyclists.
  • 1949: Launch of the iconic Diskus® padlock, characterised by its unique round shape and robust design.
  • 1957: Establishment of a second manufacturing site in Rehe, Germany, under the leadership of Willi Bremicker.
  • 1966: Expansion into door security products, marking ABUS's commitment to comprehensive home security solutions.
  • 1979: ABUS established ABUS Hong Kong Ltd., marking its expansion into the Asian market and reinforcing its global presence.
  • 1981: The company inaugurated test laboratories at its Rehe facility, ensuring that all products met international standards through rigorous testing.
  • 1994: ABUS introduced its first bicycle helmet, expanding its product range to include personal safety equipment for cyclists.
  • 2001: The formation of ABUS Security Center marked the company's entry into electronic security solutions, broadening its offerings to include alarm systems and video surveillance.
  • 2016: ABUS enhanced its presence in the cycling industry by establishing manufacturing capabilities in Italy, known for its rich cycling heritage.
  • 2024: As ABUS approached its centennial, the company addressed contemporary challenges such as digitalisation and sustainability by developing a comprehensive sustainability concept and smart security solutions.

These milestones reflect ABUS's dedication to innovation and excellence in the security industry. However, we’re mainly interested in their padlock offering. ABUS padlocks are renowned for their superior quality, innovative engineering, and exceptional durability, making them a top choice for security-conscious individuals and businesses worldwide.

ABUS is committed to using premium materials such as hardened steel and stainless steel, ensuring maximum resistance to corrosion, cutting, and drilling. Their padlocks undergo rigorous in-house testing, including impact, tensile, and extreme weather resistance trials, guaranteeing reliability in even the harshest environments.

Many of their padlocks incorporate high-security pin tumbler cylinders, disc detainer locks, and anti-pick technology, making them incredibly resistant to lockpicking and manipulation. Additionally, the unique Diskus® design, a signature of ABUS, provides 360° protection with minimal shackle exposure, preventing brute-force attacks.

All about the ABUS Disk Lock

The ABUS Diskus® padlock stands out due to its distinctive design and superior security features. The round shape with a narrow shackle opening minimises exposure, making it difficult for tools to gain leverage. Crafted from stainless steel inside and out, the ABUS disk lock offers exceptional resistance to corrosion and physical attacks.

The two stainless steel shells are hand-welded, preventing easy separation and enhancing overall durability. These features make the Diskus® padlock an excellent choice for securing barns, cupboards, cellars, doors, and gates.

ABUS Locks at Locks Direct: A Comprehensive Selection

At Locks Direct, we offer a diverse range of ABUS locks to meet various security requirements, including but not limited to the following:

Abus 83WP/53 Weatherproof Padlock

A heavy-duty weatherproof padlock with a hardened steel shackle and weatherproof lock body. The cover ensures it can withstand extreme weather conditions and provide long-lasting protection.

Additionally, it has a ball-bearing security mechanism that keeps the Abus locked even if the shackle is cut. This measure often deters an attacker from further attempts as it requires much more effort to enter. This padlock has a high-security rating of 8.

Abus 158CS65 Combination Padlock

This combination padlock has a solid zinc die-cast body, making it durable and high-security. Thanks to its hardened steel shackle, it offers good saw resistance. Its 5-wheel combination mechanism also means that you don't have to worry about carrying and potentially losing keys; you can just set the combi lock, and you are good to go. This makes the high-security coded padlock perfect for securing lockers, sheds, and toolboxes.

Abus 26/70 Diskus Padlock

The 26/70 Abus disk lock provides premium security performance at an affordable price. The closed shackle ensures protection from drills, bolt cutters and saws, as only a minimal amount of the shackle is exposed.
